4K: Abbreviation for an image and video resolution from 3840 x 2160 to 4096 x 3112. To obtain other aspect ratios or to be compatible with technologies like HD-SDI or DVI, further formats like 4096 x 2160 and 4096 x 1714 are common. The 4K resolution is higher than the one of a HDTV signal. As 4K is used for film production mainly the color coding is mostly RGB 4:4:4 which gives a better quality than YUV 4:2:2.
